APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR THE YOUTH COOPERATIVES DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
Youth unemployment continues to be a pressing socio-economic challenge facing the City of Johannesburg and poses an enormous obstacle towards transformation, growth and development. To mitigate against endemic exclusion, the City’s Department of Economic Development invites youth, to register for the Youth Cooperatives Development Programme as of 24 February 2021.
The programme aims to raise awareness about local cooperatives as an alternative form of the enterprise model. It is targeting individuals who do not possess sufficient skills and previous work experience demanded by potential employers in the labour market. The programme will identify five hundred young people in each of the City’s seven regions to aid with compliance. training. and linking them with procurement opportunities available in the City.
The City’s task is to improve the ordinary lived experiences of residents, henceforth. the Government of Local Unity in the City identified youth development as a strategic priority in responding to the triple challenges of unemployment, poverty and inequality.
