Due to high levels of unemployment in South Africa, which is recorded at 34%, foreigners will find it hard to find employment unless they have a critical skill.
Why do private companies prefer to employ foreigners?
Private companies have often been accused of employing foreigners while neglecting South African nationals. Foreigners are regarded as cheap labour as they are prepared to work for less than the locals’ demand.
Most foreigners are also not represented by labour unions, which makes it easier for private companies to hire their services for lower than the minimum wage without being taken to court.
