How to apply to the University of Cape Town for 2023

Are you interested in studying at the University of Cape Town (UCT) in 2023? The University of Cape Town is inviting local and international students to apply for its 2023 intake. The college offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. It has six faculties. Its main campus is in Cape Peninsula.

Application Process for University of Cape Town

  • You can apply online at or get in touch with the Admissions Office for an application form or download it for yourself at apply/forms.
  • You’ll need to submit only one application.
  • Please do not hesitate to ask for advice on the programmes from the Admission Office so that you make better choices and increase your chances of being selected.
  • You can choose two programmes.
  • The Admission Office will choose a programme for you from your two choices
  • If you encounter any problems applying, please get in touch with the admission office to get help.
  • How does the University acknowledge receipt of applications?
  • If you have provided an email address, you will receive an email. If you did not provide an email address, the college would write to you. The email or letter will ask you to check if the Admission Office has captured your data correctly.

 What are the application fees for UCT? 

If you are a South African or SADC applicant, you must pay an application fee of  R100. All other international applicants will pay R300. The application fee is non-refundable. Please contact the Directions for Undergraduate Applicants on how to pay the application fees.

Who is eligible for admission at the UCT?

  • You must meet the minimum academic qualification required for the programme. Please have a look at the website for the minimum requirements of your preferred programmes.
  • If you are 23 years and older with a grade 12 certificate but do not meet the minimum requirements for the programme, you will be admitted via maturity entry. Maturity entry is not available in Faculties of Health Sciences or Law.
  • If you have foreign certificates, you must meet the matriculation exemption.
  • If you are yet to complete secondary school, you must meet the requirements specified by the faculty for each programme.

Application Deadlines for the University of Cape Town 2023 intake

All applications opened on 1 April. Just so you know, these dates are subject to change, so you’ll need to check with the college for the actual dates. Please pay special attention to application due dates because late applications will not be considered.

31 August

  • Undergraduate programme changes. Send a request to, with “Request for programme change” in the subject line.
  • Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art (BA(FA)) portfolios.

30 September

  • Bachelor of Architectural Studies (BAS) portfolio

15 October

  • The final date for writing the NBTs for admission to UCT

31 October:

  • Applicants applying with grade 12 mid-year results.
  • International students applying with predicted scores.
  • English proficiency proof.
  • Mid-year or past transcript for transferring applicants.

 15 November

  • International applicants

 31 December

  • Applicants must submit all final transcripts and non-NSC school-leaving results (except CAIE, ZIMSEC and NSSC)

15 January 2023

  • Final CAIE, ZIMSEC and NSSC results from the November 2022 session
